Michael Foley

Michael Foley

Michael Foley was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in July of 2017 and was given 2 months to live. Michael has fought incredibly hard, underwent over 70 rounds of radiation, two brain surgeries and various forms of clinical trials. During this, he never lost his compassion for others, humor and positive attitude. Once he was healthy enough, he looked for ways that he could give back to the community and started the non-profit charity – “Ducks for Cancer”.

Michael sells handmade wooden lawn ducks and the money gets donated to the Chemo Bag Project. The Chemo Bag Project makes bags for individuals going through chemotherapy in the Boston/New Hampshire area. Michael makes no profit, and all of the money goes towards this organization or supplies to continue to make the ducks. Michael works alone, spending about 9-12 hours a day in the basement making these ducks to be able to collect money for charity. To date, he has been able to donate over $120,000 to various cancer charities.

Not only is he financially helping communities, he is providing hope to individuals that hear his story and see the impact he is making. Not to mention, he still has stage 4 cancer and is continuing his treatment and fighting his battle.

On Wednesday, May 29th, Chick-fil-A and The Greg Hill Foundation awarded Michael with a Chick-fil-A prize pack including Chick-fil-A for the rest of the year and $1,500 towards Michael’s new workshop to build his ducks.
